Mount Airy

Mt. Airy combines dense, leafy parkland, miles of multi-use trails, tree-lined streets and a historic cobblestone business district to attract aspiring entrepreneurs and friendly neighbors committed to civic engagement and social activism. Many civil rights groups recognize the area as one of the first successfully integrated neighborhoods in America and the residents still take pride in that claim today. The community began as a resort for Philadelphians to get away from the hustle and bustle, and with its more than fifty-seven miles of trails that weave through the 1,600-acre park, it is easy to see why.

Although some of the city-like atmosphere has made its way into Mt. Airy, hikers, cyclists, horseback riders and runners still enjoy the various terrains throughout the weekend. On weekdays, cozy cafes, chic galleries, and small businesses line the main streets providing unique niceties to residents and draw visitors from all over the region. Mt. Airy’s central commercial district lies along the stone-paved Germantown Avenue and hosts a variety of independent shops, restaurants, wine bars, art galleries and clothing stores. The area is also unique in that it offers a lot of single-family, standalone homes but still has modern condominiums and brick-faced townhomes to choose from.
